Under the supervision of his excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Abdullah Algomaizy, dean of AlKharj community college, a meeting titled “Preparing an effective presentation and facing the audience” was held on Tuesday 22/3/1441 to provide students with professional skills. A number of students and anticipated graduates attended the meeting which was conducted by Dr. Ahmad Ngmish. The meeting aimed to inform students and anticipated graduates of the importance of an effective presentation in delivering the message to the audience, preparing and designing an effective presentation. Also, Dr. Ngmish talked about the technical standards of a functional presentation, how to generate coherent ideas, and preparations to be considered before delivering the presentation. Then Dr. Ngmish talked about how to be mentally prepared, he gave advice on boosting self-confidence, organizing ideas, and to practice presenting. Some of the potential causes of fear of presenting have been discussed and how to overcome them. Also regarding facing the audience, the guest speaker gave advice on how to answer questions accurately and how to deal with distractions and stay focused on the subject. During the meeting a rehearsal was carried out on graduation projects as a case that the students will go through during their education, and how to prepare a good presentation and be ready for discussion. Also during the rehearsal, the components of an effective presentation have been introduced, rehearsing the presentation before the discussion, dividing the roles among the project team members. At the end of the meeting, students have been urged to make use of the mentioned skills and master them in order to act properly in their professional careers, such as making a presentation on their company’s products, making a presentation on a performance report, discussing scientific topics or any other situations in which they are required to prepare an effective presentation and deliver it to the audience. The guest speaker finally thanked the audience for their attendance and participation and he also thanked the college’s administration for their efforts in organizing and providing this opportunity to train students on those skills.
