In unison with the University interest in IT, communications development, digital advancement and the increasing need of the marketplace for computer skills, the Student Activity Unit in the College has organized a workshop entitled ‘Computer Networks and Communications Policies’, presented by Mr Sami Kufi, lecturer in the Computer Dept. the event took place on Sunday 7/2/1141. The workshop shed light on the general layout of networks, network connections, the OSI model, and it also discussed the various network cables, network geographical classifications, network nodes, communication protocols and wireless networks.Mr Kufi also pointed out that networks are a system of a medley of programs, and that they require computers and communication devices. Their function is to facilitate the transfer of data amongst the different computers. He stressed the importance of the network functioning properly and the presence of quality requirements apropos of speed, reliability and security.Mr Kufi pointed out that the main networks include the worldwide web, local networks, and telephone networks. At the close of the workshop, the audience expressed their gratitude to the dean of the College, Dr Hamad al-Gmeizy, for his assiduous interest in such unique workshops that aim at burnishing the students’ experience and preparing them effectively for the labour market.
