Under the auspice of Dr. Hamd Al-Qumizi, the dean of Al-kharj Community College, the entrepreneurship club in association with the department of health centers at Al-kharj organized Seasonal influenza vaccine campaign on Sunday, 28/2/1441 AH. This campaign has been launched, since college is interested in raising health awareness of health problems and diseases resulted from seasonal influenza , which sometimes results into death. Dr. Amar Ali Hassan, the physician at the Health centers Department at Alkharj declares that there are people who confuse seasonal flue with cold that makes some belittle the side effects of the flue, which is not accepted at all. The flue is different from cold which may cause serious side effect and it may cause death. It has been scientifically proven that nearly 600millions people are caught by seasonal flue, and nearly 50000 people die due to its effect. As such , European health council declared that the number of death cases resulting from seasonal flue exceeds the number of death cases due to car accidents. Dr. Amar indicates that the incubation period of the virus ranges from 1-4 days and the syndrome starts to appear on the second day of infection. The seasonal flue is notorious for its emerging fever, sore throat, chronic headache, and pain in muscles, serious weakness of body. Some of these symptoms can distinguish flue from common cold. On the other hand, Dr. Ali Hussain Anbar, the physician at the Health centers Department at Alkharj the flue vaccination is taken against three types of flue A, B, C. Once person is vaccinated, his immune system starts producing the antibiotic resisting these types and this process may take a period of two weeks. By the end of this period, one may get protected from these types. Dr. Anbar states that the most vulnerable people to such the virus of flue are those people who suffer from chronic disease like asthma, heart diseases, diabetic, and the people who are suffering from Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome. More than two hundred students in the college were vaccinated and the faculty members and personnel were also vaccinated. At the end of the campaign, the dean of the college thanked the efforts exerted by the department of the health centers in raising the awareness among the different categories of the society and he stressed the importance of the cooperation with the department in organizing such campaigns. In addition, the vice dean for academic affairs , Dr. Nasser Al-shayhan, extended his thanking to the participants in the campaign.
